Ways You Can Help

The strength of any organization lies with the people that it touches, and the dedication, commitment, and support provided in return.

The TSFC is a federally registered charitable organization, and the Board of Directors, our Chapter members, Resource Units and Contact Representatives, and the Professional Advisory Board are volunteers, all giving of their time and energy for the benefit of the goals and objectives of the TSFC.

We are a national voluntary organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for those with or affected by Tourette Syndrome through programs of education, advocacy, self help and the promotion of research.

Our Vision:

“All people who have Tourette Syndrome will lead quality lives as accepted and valued members of an informed, tolerant society."

The Board of Directors are “volunteers” who are dedicated to the Vision and are willing to contribute personal time in guiding the organization and its business matters. If you know of an individual or you are willing to lend your name, contact the National Office. You must be a member in good standing a minimum of 45 days prior to the Annual General Meeting held in conjunction with the National Conference.

As a voluntary organization, we rely upon volunteers who are dedicated to our cause. Helping the organization can be a very rewarding experience and we can feel great knowing that we each did our parts in improving the lives of those afflicted with TS.

There are a number of ways you can help:

  • Become involved at the local level. Come out to a meeting of your local Chapter and offer help based on your skills. All of our Chapters need volunteers to continue the good work being done within our local communities. To find a Chapter in your area, call the national office at 1 (800) 361-3120.
  • If you are in the Toronto area, offer to help at our national office. We operate on a very thin budget and a tiny staff and we need your help. Call the national office for more information at (905) 673-2255 or email us at tsfc@tourette.ca.
  • We are always looking for volunteers to help with our In-service Presentations. Our Volunteer Development Committee provides the necessary training and support in order to ensure that we can meet the needs for in-service presentations across Canada.
  • A key component of any organization is the development of membership. As a charitable organization, we do not receive any government funding for our operations, but we do request funding for specific projects from governments, corporations, foundations and donors. As with any organization looking for funding, we must provide proof that our organization is in need, and that it plays a valuable role within our communities and society in general. Membership numbers are an important component of these requests, so please consider this key support role, and join today.
  • We appreciate the time commitments of family, business and society. If you are unable to find time to volunteer, you can still provide valuable assistance for our organization by becoming a donor to the TSFC.

Financial contributions are always required to offset increasing costs of operations.

The TSFC appreciates the effort of our volunteers. Each year a number of AWARDS are presented at the annual conference to recognize these efforts. Information on our AWARDS is available online or by calling the national office at 1 (800) 361-3120.
