Finding SupportHow much support you need and when you need it will differ from family to family. Many families find that the need for support waxes and wanes just as tics do. Support is available in many forms right from the time of diagnosis. The key is determining the kind of support that you require at a particular time and then seeking it out. Contact your local Chapter of the Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada. Chapters are located across Canada and many have a variety of support programs/meetings. Meeting and talking to others who are dealing with similar issues can often be a valuable form of support. Become a member of the Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada and receive full membership benefits including newsletters, updates, notices of special events, involvement within local chapters and special member rates for publications, merchandise and conference registration. Sharing information with other parents and adults who are dealing with TS/TS+ is often the most valuable avenue of support. Internet bulletin boards provide an avenue for sharing experiences and asking questions. The TSFC operates a bulletin board called the TS Forum. You simply register, agree to the participation rules and you will have access to others with TS or those dealing with someone with TS. If the support you require is explaining TS/TS+ to teachers, classmates, community groups, or employers, check out the Educators Resources Area as well as the TSFC In-Service Program. |
